The Kulturrucksack NRW programme enables children and young people aged between 10 and 14 to learn about art and culture and, above all, to get creative themselves: dancing, making music, acting, writing texts, shooting film clips, painting and much more. The activities take place in youth centres, theatres and museums, for example. They can be short workshops or longer projects, holiday activities or special excursions. To enable as many people as possible to take part, participation in Kulturrucksack is free or very inexpensive.
In 2016, 220 towns and municipalities are involved in the support programme. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Ministry for Children, Families, Refugees and Integration of North Rhine-Westphalia (until April 2017, the Ministry for Families, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of North Rhine-Westphalia).
The FTK was commissioned to manage the Kulturrucksack.NRW website. This includes, among other things, the further development of the central website, the creation of design templates and editorial support. The aim of the state-wide Kulturrucksack.NRW project is to provide all children and young people with free and significantly reduced-cost cultural activities.
